ExplorerFocus is a desktop file explorer for Windows. It runs entirely on your own computer. There is no ExplorerFocus server, and we do not collect, store, transmit or sell your data. This page explains what the app touches and where it stays.

The short version

Data we collect

None on any server — we don't operate one. The app stores its settings, your configured folders/trees, and your saved connections locally, in your Windows user profile. This information never leaves your device except when you ask the app to connect to a service you chose.

Cloud connections (Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive)

Connecting a cloud account is optional. When you do:

Permissions requested, and why:

You can disconnect at any time inside the app, and you can revoke access entirely from your provider's account/security settings (Dropbox connected apps, Microsoft account apps, Google account third-party access).

Remote servers (SFTP / FTP / FTPS / WebDAV)

If you add a remote server, its host, username and credentials are stored locally and encrypted with Windows DPAPI. Connections are made directly from your machine to that server. We never see your servers or credentials.

Local files

The app reads and writes the files and folders you choose to work with, on your own device, just like Windows Explorer. Nothing is uploaded anywhere unless you explicitly perform an upload to a destination you connected.

Software updates & anonymous statistics

The app can check for new versions by fetching a small version.json file hosted on GitHub Pages. This is an ordinary web request and sends no personal data. You can turn automatic checks off in the app's settings.

When an update is actually applied, the app sends a single anonymous hit to our privacy-friendly analytics (GoatCounter) so we can count how many updates happen. It carries no personal data — only the fact that an update occurred. You can turn this off at any time via About → “Send anonymous usage statistics”.

Licensing & donations

The optional PREMIUM tier is tied to a device using a locally-computed machine ID (a hash derived from your Windows installation and system volume). It is not personally identifying and is used only to bind a licence to a machine. Donations are handled by PayPal; their privacy policy applies to the payment itself. We do not receive or store your payment card details.

Website analytics

This website uses GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly analytics service. It sets no cookies, uses no cross-site tracking and stores no personal data (it does not retain your IP address). We use it only to count page views and, anonymously, how often the download buttons (.exe / .zip) are clicked. Because it uses no cookies and no personal data, no consent banner is required.

Data sharing

We do not sell, rent or share your data. We have no servers that collect it. The only parties your data reaches are the services you connect to, directly.

Children

ExplorerFocus is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date.
